Lovemore Matombo

Lovemore Matombo is chairman of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZTCU). He is regularly arrested and tormented, received the Courage Award 2009 for his effort to improve the rights of employees in Zimbabwe. Lovemore Matombo will speak during the plenary session and in the following workshop.

Irene Petras

Irene Petras is the director of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights and one of the main human rights lawyers in Zimbabwe. She is also board member of the Zimbabwe Election Support Network. As a result of her work she had to endure assaults on numerous occasions. Irene Petras will participate in the following workshop.

Tommy Garnett

Mr. Garnett is founder of the Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA). He managed to put the degradation of nature around refugee and IDP camps on the international agenda. Mr. Garnet is also the inspiring initiator of the GAWA network of environmental and nature organisations in West Africa.  Mr. Garnett will share his experiences with environmental challenges and threats for Africans at IUCN NL's workshop. Tommy Garnett will participate in the following workshop.

Jean Remy Makana

Dr Makana is an expert on forest ecology with a keen focus on forest governance issues and Carbon storage and technical advisor to the DRC government on REDD. He will inform you about the potentials of new carbon markets for conservation and development in a post war region and the experiences with forest conservation at IUCN NL's workshop. Jean Remy Makana will participate in the following workshop.

Paul Victor Obeng

Mr. Obeng will talk about this exceptional progress as seen from his personal perspective having served among others as Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) the military government that came to power in 1981, as close advisor to President Jerry Rawlings from 1993-2001 under newly established civilian rule, and as advisor of current President John Evans Atta Mills (NDC) in Ghana. He has recently also been appointed Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission. Paul Victor Obeng will participate in the following workshop.

Alphonse Muambi

Alphonse Muambi, oorspronkelijk uit Congo, woont al sinds 1994 in Nederland. Als spreker neemt hij deel aan nationale en internationale bijeenkomsten over globaliseringsvraagstukken en ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Hij is nu tolk bij het ministerie van justitie en publiceert stukken in verschillende kranten. Recentelijk heeft hij zijn boek Democratie kun je niet Eten uitgebracht. Alphonse Muambi zal meedoen aan de volgende workshop.

Muthoni Ndonga

Muthoni is muzikant bij Penya platenlabel (www.penyafrica.com) en cultureel ondernemer (http://www.myspace.com/muthonimusic): ze organiseert zelf een periodiek zondagmiddag muziekevenement in Nairobi, genaamd "Blankets and Wine", en verschillende feesten en bijeenkomsten. Ze noemt haar muziek afro-edge of fusio soul en heeft verder een scherpe visie op Afrika, mondialisering, marketing, cultureel kopieergedrag en de artistieke combinatie van traditionele en moderne elementen in de jongerencultuur. Bovenal is ze een levendig en overweldigend spreker. Muthoni Ndonga doet mee in de volgende workshop.

Pacific Mukumba Isumbisho

Mr. Mukumba Isumbisho is director of the Support Center for Indigenous Pygmys and Vulnerable Minorities (CAMV) in the DRC. He is representative of the African civil organisations in the UN-REDD programme Policy
Board. He will inform you about the chances and obstacles of new carbon markets for indigenous people at IUCN NLs workshop. Mukumba will participate in the following workshop.
