Only one week: Afrikadag 2022!
In just one week time on Saturday May 28 the Afrikadag 2022 will take place! This day is all about African-European cooperation. With important Dutch names such as Jan Pronk, Bert Koenders, Kiza Magendane and Joris Thijssen (PvdA). Other Dutch politicians include Tom van der Lee (GroenLinks), Jan Klink (VVD), Sylvana Simons (Bij1), Marieke Koekkoek (Volt), Christine Theunissen (PvdD) and Alexander Hammelburg (D66)! There is a band Boule Mpanya and comedian Mo Hersi! And most important are perhaps our special African guests, such as the great politician and one of the first three female Kenyan governors Charity Kaluki Ngilu. Others are Faten Aggad (Senior Policy Advisor African Climate Foundation), Nondumiso Nsibande (Director ActionAid South-Africa) and Mariam Oyiza Aliyu (Nigerian women's rights activist).
How do we as the Netherlands and Europe relate to African countries, communities and people in the year 2022? This question is at the heart of the over 30 workshops! These are organised by diaspora organisations, Ngo's and other partners. Withouth the support of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Oxfam Novib, ActionAid, OneWorld, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the location: the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam.
You can choose your entire programme for the day yourself! Politics, economics, climate and culture: there is something there for everyone. There is a specially designed film programme, workshops with writers and even African music. In between the workshops you have enough time to wander around the beatiful KIT and visit the African themed market fair. Here you can meet our participating organisations, look for African books, fashion, art and buy your Ethiopian lunch!
